Tikkun Chatzot

The midnight rite, at the right moment, wherever you are.

Chatzot halayla moves every night, differs by where you are, and is almost never midnight on the clock. This app removes that problem. Set your location once. Every night it works out chatzot for exactly where you are, wakes you at it, and has the text waiting when you get up.

The right time, and the working shown

Chatzot halayla is calculated as twelve hours after chatzot hayom — the reckoning of the Baal HaTanya (Shulchan Aruch HaRav, Hashkamat HaBoker 1:8). The app shows the whole derivation, sunrise through chatzot halayla, so it can be checked against a printed luach rather than taken on faith.

The mourning should not be confined to Tisha B'Av alone. Instead, every person should engage himself in crying and lamenting over the destruction of the Bais HaMikdash every night at midnight.
